Golf somehow became the national costume for pretending your life is more stable, successful, and sophisticated than it actually is.

The polos are pressed. The drinks are cold. Everybody speaks softly like they own land somewhere. Meanwhile half the people there are one bad month away from panic and checking LinkedIn in the parking lot.

We wrote this essay because there is something deeply fascinating about the emotional world surrounding golf in America, especially the parts nobody says out loud. The performance. The rituals. The strange need to look calm, successful, disciplined, and expensive at all times, even when reality says otherwise.

Funny, sharp, uncomfortable, observant, and a little dangerous in the right way.
