New York Wants to Subsidize Pets. Fine. Then Subsidize Responsibility Too.
New York is considering a pet tax credit under Assembly Bill A05340, up to $900 a year to help cover pet-related expenses. On its face, it’s compassionate. Pets are expensive. Anyone who has ever paid a vet bill without blinking has either deep pockets or no choice.
But this is New York. Nothing exists in isolation. Certainly not a dog.
Pets in a dense city are not a private relationship. They are a public experience with a leash attached.
And if the state is going to help fund that experience, it should be honest about what comes with it.
Hair. Barking. Sidewalk poop.
